This transition demands robotic systems that are not just safe and collaborative but also highly adaptive and capable of learning through interaction from their surroundings. In this talk, I will focus on adaptive real-time solutions for reactive trajectory generation, force-based robotic manipulation and grasping implemented on collaborative robots but also learning-based solutions for problems that involve deformable objects showcasing the complex dynamics at play. I will discuss how haptic sensing can be utilized to address uncertainty and facilitate adaptability, and how dual arm robots can show increased flexibility and independence from a structured environment. To conclude, I will highlight the essential synergy between navigation, manipulation, and grasping, emphasizing the intricate challenges involved in developing a cohesive robotic system that seamlessly coordinates the functionalities of hand, arm, and body within complex dynamic environments. *Upcoming breakfast seminar* The breakfast seminars are scheduled once per month with the main purpose of triggering multi-disciplinary discussions and potential collaborations. Dear all, This week we will be visited by Bethany Caldwell, a PhD student from University of South Australia. She is working on first-order methods for optimal control and will give a seminar tomorrow, Tuesday at 13:15-14:00. Talk details below (that will be announced today hopefully). You are all most welcome! She will be sitting at Luka's desk. Let me know if you want a slot to discuss with her at some point this week! /Pontus The Douglas–Rachford algorithm for optimal control Abstract: The Douglas–Rachford algorithm has been applied to many optimization problems due to their simplicity and efficiency but the application of this algorithm to optimal control is less common. In this talk we utilize these methods to solve continuous-time linear-quadratic optimal control problems. Usually one would apply a direct discretization approach where the original problem is reduced to a large scale finite-dimensional problem and solved using some numerical solver. In this approach reformulate the original problem into a problem of minimizing the sum of two functions and apply the Douglas–Rachford algorithm. We provide numerical experiments comparing the performance of the Douglas–Rachford algorithm and the AMPL–Ipopt suite.

Follow up meeting

Hi The salary revision is scheduled for October 1 2024. As head of department it is my duty to offer you a follow up meeting of the appraisal meeting that we had in the Spring as a preparation for the salary revision. If anyone would like to have such a meeting please contact me as soon as possible. Should be held in September.
